Stygian

(This is my word of the day)

adj.) a. Dark or gloomy. b. hellish, infernal; of or relating to hell.

Ex. Walking to my car, I glanced up to see stygian skies promising much rain and foulness.

History: Comes from classical myth, referring to the river Styx (the river of the dead).
