Today's Scriptures (01-17-11)

Here are the scriptures I am considering this morning:

John 16:33
(Jesus speaking) "These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
  • Jesus overcame the world. Why should that cheer me up? What are the ramifications of this statement?  Something to consider.

2 Corinthians 5:15
And he (Jesus) died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
  • We have a high calling. Ever felt that you were meant for something more?  You were. But the "more" is different than we might like to think. We can live our lives here and spend our lives on ourselves. We can live for ourselves -- and I think if we are honest, most people do. The option to fulfill a higher calling is to live for someone else -- the one for whom all things were created. This is the call. To live for ourselves is a waste of life. To live for him is to really live.

Colossians 1:16-18
For by him  (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
  • This leaves no doubt as to the point and purpose of creation.
